“Ain’t no thing like me, except me.”
Rocket Raccoon
The big news on the Miss Maeve front is that I have entered her in the 2025 Working Aussie Source Ranch Dog Futurity. Boy, do we have a lot of work to do by next April!! I know Maeve is up to the challenge. Me… we shall see.
Maeve is maturing into a strong, confident powerhouse. She has a beautiful take pen, nice flanks, more eye than her brother, and a keen sense of group. At the moment we’re working on tamping down her chase reflex. If something leaves, she’s going to make sure she catches it. An admirable trait if done correctly. Not so much when using the methods she currently chooses to employ.
Given the upheaval of our lives the past year and a half, regular training has suffered. That will be changing and I’ll start asking the girl for more. This dog has no quit in her and can take quite a bit both mentally and physically. Fast, sometimes pushy, but always willing, Maeve is going a long way toward filling Jig’s pawprints and stepping up as the ‘big gun’ on the farm.

Notes: Me laughing at the end of the first walk-up was due to my training partner telling me not to make Maeve lie down, and then she did it anyhow. The cut out section was me untangling myself from the line. We’re still not best of friends, it and I.
